Africa in particular is a huge continent with millions of traditions. Africa is divided into regions; each region has a variety of customs to follow. Most people in other parts of the world think that Girls in Africa are the same, but that is not exactly true. In West Africa, men do not have to pay dowry to marry teenage girls, whilst in South Africa, the groom’s parents must pay cattle as dowry to the girls’ parents.
In Southern Africa, when girls reach a certain age, they must go through some traditional ceremony to teach them how to treat their husbands. They are kept out of the public eye for weeks, and sometimes even months. During this period, girls are taught how to handle marriage and family. They are taught how to keep their marriages together in times of hardship.
Of course, everything has changed in this modern world where women from all over the world are looking for equality. A long time ago, most of our grandmothers were mostly house wives, they stayed home to care for their families while our grandfathers left home for months at a time to find ways to feed their families. Although this is no longer the case, in most parts of Africa, men are still considered heads of households.
African Girls Were Taught To Be Obedient to their husbands, as divorce was not an option, but all that has changed today. Girls and women from all over the world are fighting for equality. Which is why divorce is rising at an alarming rate? There’s no respect in marriage anymore because women as well as girls are fighting for their freedom.
If you are still wondering why there are too many broken marriages in the world today, well, you are not alone. The world as we know it has changed and continues to do so each day that passes by.
